In this post, M.J. gives us a glimpse of the back story of this tale.
Take it away, M.J.!!
The stories I write have elements from several genres: Contemporary Romance, Women’s Fiction, and Interracial Romance. My decision to focus on Women’s Fiction writing came naturally. After experiencing some life changing events and witnessing the same happen to a close family member, I found myself in awe of how resilient women can be when facing difficult decisions and traumatic events. Instead of cowering down and allowing the fallout of those events to keep them from following their dreams, they managed to pull themselves together and move forward. I realized if I didn’t know them, I would have no idea what their life was really like.
Have you ever wondered about the life of the woman sitting next to you on the bus? Your co-worker? What about your best friend? What secret from their past could they be holding deep inside? Why do they keep smiling while on the inside they are crumbling? How long can they keep up the façade before giving up?
What type of man would it take to help her find their ‘happy’?
The first version of A Heart Not Easily Broken focused solely on the heroine, Ebony Campbell, and the events that put her through a gambit of emotional, mental, and physical changes that force her to grow. She opens her mind to new experiences, love, and the realization that despite her ability to be strong on the inside, sometimes, outside support of those who love you cannot be ignored.
When the story was complete, I wasn’t satisfied. Why should she be the only one to evolve in the tale? The man in her life had to be more than just eye candy. If Ebony was a strong woman, then she should have a strong man in her life. What kind of man would it take to not only grab her attention, but be there when she wasn’t at her best, and encourage her to reach her dreams?
It was then I decided to focus on his story as well as hers and man, do I love the results! The Butterfly Memoirs are a perfect blend of character growth as individuals, in relationships, with family and in love. They are tested, emotions explored, and love found. In the end, I feel I have found the perfect blend to not only make the characters real, it will take you on an a rollercoaster of emotions. So, if you’re looking for a different kind of read, a story of evolution as well as romance, The Butterfly Memoirs are for you!
When Ebony’s attempt at a brief fling turns into more, despite negative reactions from friends and family, she finds juggling love, family, and career are nothing compared to the ultimate betrayal she endures. Now her dreams spiral into lies and secrets that threaten her future and her best friend’s trust.
